Valve is gearing up to release a game console called SteamBox , and the company has already confirmed the device will be capable of running games developed for the Steam service exclusively. It certainly seems to have the potential to become a major competitor to the PlayStation and Xbox franchises, and this new portable PC gaming device from the company is sure to be a hit.

Valve is a leading company in the PC gaming scene. They’ve been making some incredible products for a couple of years now, one of which is the Steam Machine. The Steam Machine is a series of custom computers made to play Valve’s SteamOS, but Valve recently launched a brand new product for gamers called the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck is a portable gaming device that will play games and stream Steam games from the SteamOS environment.

Valve has long been a leader in the PC gaming scene, and it released its Steam Machines in late 2015. Since then, the company has continued to push forward with its Steam Link service, which released alongside the Steam Controller in early 2016, as well as its Steam VR hardware that’s currently on its way to consumers.

If you’ve ever dreamed of a device that combines your PC games with something as cute and portable as the Switch, Valve has you covered. The company has just unveiled the long-awaited Steam Deck, a slightly larger and much more powerful device than the Switch that uses a version of SteamOS that will run all your Steam games, though it can also run non-Steam games and launchers, according to IGN. It has a pair of capacitive joysticks and a mouse-like trackpad, Bluetooth support, USB connectivity, mod support, and a battery life of 2-8 hours depending on the game you’re playing.

Valve says shipments will begin in December, and orders are already being taken for those still waiting for $399 (64GB), $529 (256GB) or $649 (512GB). There is no price for the dock yet, and it is not included in the price.

We see this as a new category of devices in the PC space, says Valve’s Greg Coomer. And if the customers agree with us that this is a good idea, we expect not only that we will do more iterations in the future, but also that other people, other manufacturers will want to participate in this project.

Meet the Steam Deck: a powerful portable gaming PC starting at $399. Developed by Valve, powered by Steam. Delivery in December 2021.
