Blizzard has announced the 2020 Summer Games, an elaborate celebration of Overwatch’s 20th anniversary. Overwatch’s 2020 Summer Olympics will be the first global sporting event to include aerial and water sports, and will feature an Olympic Village where players can compete for medals and honor.
Overwatch is a popular, team-based shooter game that’s been out for a few years now. It’s one of the most popular games on PC, and it’s even been ported to consoles. Last week, Blizzard announced that the Overwatch League will be coming to the ring in 2021. It will be a league that will run for two seasons per year, and will feature 20 teams in each. The season starts in the first week of July, the first game will be a match between the New York Excelsior and the London Spitfire, and the finals will be held in London at the end of August. There are other league events and tournaments that are planned, and Blizzard say that the summer games will be a highlight of the second season
Blizzard Entertainment has teased the next major step in its Warcraft universe with a new game from designer Alan Beatts, and it apparently includes a boardgame that allows you to relive one of the most exciting periods in Blizzard’s history. It’s called Lich King, and it’s set in the world of Azeroth during the time when the Lich King first began to rise, as part of the Wrath of the Lich King board game.. As the first Tokyo Olympics activities begin today, Overwatch has launched its own Summer Games, which will continue through August 10th this year. Lucioball and Lucioball Remix will be back, as well as conventional lootboxes and cosmetics. Blizzard adds, “erve up some summer treats as Sprinkles Mei, sit back with an icy drink as Poolside Ashe, wade into the waves as Mermaid Symmetra, and more.”
And do you recall the new World of Warcraft boardgame we spoke about in July? World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King — A Pandemic System Board Game was officially announced today. Yeah, that’s a lot of colons and dashes, but it seems like fun, even if it’ll set you back $60.

Blizzard is looking to revive its annual esports event, the Overwatch League. The Overwatch League Playoffs and Finals will take place in a summer tournament this year, becoming the first official esports event to be held in the summer. The league, which was announced in 2017, is the first of its kind in the world, and currently is the largest esports league in terms of prize money..
