Blood Bowl 3, the highly anticipated turn-based strategy game from Games Workshop’s developer team, Cyanide, will not be coming out on February 6, 2018 as originally planned, but will instead be delayed until early 2019. The company issued an apology for the delay, and noted that the team is “taking the time to ensure the game’s quality is at the level we and our fans expect it to be, and to ensure that the launch will be a memorable one.”

Blood Bowl 3 had a somewhat troubled development cycle, to say the least. When the original Blood Bowl 2 was released back in 2012, fans were overjoyed at the fact that Cyanide Studios released a game that played like their beloved Blood Bowl, but with the added option to play as humans. It seemed like Cyanide had turned their focus to making a spiritual successor to the original Blood Bowl (hence the title change from Blood Bowl 2 to Blood Bowl 3), and the last few years have been fascinating to watch.

Blood Bowl 3 is an upcoming turn-based tactical strategy game developed by Cyanide and is the third game in the Blood Bowl series. It was announced in late 2015 and is slated for launch in October 2017 for the PC and Xbox One.

During the recent Blood Bowl 3 preview, several members of the press got the chance to ask questions directly to Nacon’s Clement Nicolin (Product Manager) and Hama Ducura (PR and Communications Specialist) to discuss the many uncertainties surrounding the launch of Blood Bowl 3. It’s a mix of very exciting news and not so exciting news. word-image-777 First, the release date has changed. In 2020 and 2021, COVID wreaked havoc in most sectors, but the video game industry suffered the most from the delayed response. Most of the games that were ready to be released during the strictest months of the lockdown were already on the market, but the real problem lay with the games that were still in development. Blood Bowl 3 appears to be one of those offerings. Already this year, the game has been delayed several times, with the initial release scheduled shortly after the release of Blood Bowl Second Season in November. The release of the game was delayed until the end of the year, but has since been postponed, and the expected release date for Blood Bowl 3 is now February 2022. This will certainly disappoint many fans, but you don’t have to wait that long to get in on the action. The beta test runs from the 3rd to the 13th. The month of June will take place. During this period, a short preview of the final version of the game will be given. word-image-778 Access to the beta is free – just request a key on the official website. The contingent will be limited to three teams, the Imperial Nobility, the Black Orcs and the Elven Union, each representing roughly different archetypes in the game. There are no customization options for players, but there are for teams to a limited extent. Additionally, none of the competitive aspects of the game, such as leagues and tournaments, will be available. Local play and online matchmaking will be available. After beta testing, Blood Bowl 3 is expected to release on PC in September, but we don’t know what content will be available in that version. A cross-platform game also seems increasingly unlikely. After initially announcing cross-platform in August, Cyanide’s developers quickly backtracked and have said little since. This question was posed to Clément Nicolin during the press preview, but he could neither confirm nor deny multiplatform support. This is a big advantage for a niche game that will be released on multiple platforms, and competitive play is essential for the game’s natural growth. Limiting the audience to one platform works, but it’s not the best environment. It also means that the Nintendo Switch version could have some issues early on. Additionally, they have confirmed that there are no plans to include the Deathzone or Blood Bowl 7 rules, additional optional rules that were released for the board game shortly after the second season of Blood Bowl.
