Nintendo is reviving its classic games on the Switch, with new remakes of Chrono Cross and The Battle League. As rumors abound about a fresh batch of unreleased titles coming to Nintendo’s newest console, gamers are excited for what might come next from this industry juggernaut.

Nintendo held it’s Nintendo Direct video presentation for February 2022 announcing several exciting new games, including: Xenoblade 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 48 Courses DLC, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Mario Strikers: Battle League, Nintendo Switch Sports, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series, Portal: Companion Collection, Live A Live HD-2D, Front Mission 1st: Remake, Disney Speedstorm & SD Gundam Battle Alliance. Nintendo announced a diverse lineup of new games and content arriving for the Nintendo Switch system throughout this year. Nintendo also shared new details about previously announced games, including when players will be able to get their hands on them.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3; Nintendo Switch Sports, a new rendition of the Wii Sports series featuring online play*; Mario Strikers: Battle League; and Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes were among the titles shown off during the Nintendo Direct. There was also news about the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass, which includes the addition of 48 remastered courses from across the Mario Kart series to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which can be accessed for free with a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership or as paid downloadable content. ** In addition, information on the next wave of Splatoon 3’s co-op feature Salmon Run were revealed, as well as the game’s summer launch timeframe. EarthBound and EarthBound Beginnings, two legendary RPGs, are also coming to Nintendo Switch Online… later today!

“Based on our stated launch timetable for 2022, Nintendo Switch users can expect a practically back-to-back roster of franchises featuring known names, beloved favorites, and unique originals,” Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser said. “We hope that this lineup of games from Nintendo and its development and publishing partners brings smiles to the faces of everyone who has or is thinking about purchasing a Nintendo Switch device.”
The following are some of the highlights from the Nintendo Direct video:
- Swing, kick, and spike your way to victory with a variety of sports that puts you right in the middle of the action! In the latest incarnation of the famous Wii Sports series, play with family and friends in person*** or online*, or challenge friendly rivals near and far. Compete in six sports, including soccer, volleyball, bowling, tennis, Badminton, and Chambara, by converting your real-world activities into in-game motions using Joy-Con controllers (swordplay). In a Soccer Shoot-Out, you can even use a Joy-Con with the Leg Strap attachment included in the physical edition to kick the ball! In addition, a seventh sport will be included as part of a free update this autumn – get ready for Golf! When Nintendo Switch Sports debuts on April 29, get active and into the game! The Nintendo eShop is now accepting pre-orders. On the 18th, 19th, and 20th of February, Nintendo Switch Online members will be able to participate in an online play test. - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass: A total of 48 remastered courses from the Mario Kart series will be available as paid downloadable content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! By the end of 2023, eight courses will be published in six waves, each of which may be played locally** or online*. With a paid Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, you can get the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass for free, or you can buy it separately for $24.99. The initial wave will contain courses such as Wii Coconut Mall, N64 Choco Mountain, and Tour Tokyo Blur. **** On March 18, the first wave of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass will be released. The DLC is now available for pre-order on the Nintendo eShop.
- Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the third installment in the critically acclaimed RPG series by MONOLITHSOFT. In the midst of conflict between the antagonistic countries of Keves and Agnus, players will assume the roles of protagonists Noah and Mio. Six protagonists from six countries will take part in a big story centered on the concept of “life.” Explore a new universe that connects the futures of both Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which will be released in September 2022 for Nintendo Switch.
- Prepare for Strike, a five-on-five soccer-like game with no restrictions — do whatever it takes to win! Mario Strikers: Battle League: You may tackle, utilize equipment, and trigger special shots in this game. On a single Nintendo Switch system, up to eight players – four from each side – may battle against each other. *** In addition to individual matches, online* play will allow 20 players to fight for the title of best club in the globe. - Prepare for a high-octane Disney and Pixar battle racer in Disney Speedstorm! Rip-roaring racing action with a renowned array of characters and high-speed Disney and Pixar-inspired racetracks from the developers of the Asphalt series. Disney Speedstorm is a free-to-play game with new seasons released on a regular basis, introducing new Disney and Pixar characters, circuits, and karts to the game. Enjoy cross-platform play, split-screen***, and online* multiplayer modes, as well as cross-platform play. This summer, Disney Speedstorm will be available on Nintendo Switch.
